ROLE: CREATIVE DIRECTOR + brand strategist


PROJECT BRIEF:

I developed a creative Olympic branding concept for Newark, New Jersey, highlighting the city's resilience, cultural affluence, and vibrant renaissance. This project aimed to create a brand that resonated both locally and globally, blending Newark's historical significance with modern revitalization.


DELIVERABLES:

For this project, I crafted a brand strategy delineating the following:

  • Logo design inspired by Newark’s unique attributes (cherry blossoms, urban rebirth)

  • Brand guidelines, including color palette and typography

  • Marketing assets such as outdoor advertisements and marketing motifs

REFLECTION:

By creating a proposal for a major global event, I developed critical skills in research, creativity, strategic thinking, and project management. Through researching and analyzing various aspects of my hometown, such as its culture, geography, history, and infrastructure, I identified its unique selling points and opportunities for showcasing its strengths to the world. This exercise required me to think strategically and creatively about how to craft a brand that resonates with both the local community and the international audience.

KOLA Product Proposal

PROJECT BRIEF:

KOLA is an insightful case study that delves into the experiences of first-generation American children of African descent as they navigate the complex challenge of preserving their cultural identity in the Western world. Centered on the upliftment of Nigerian culture, the envisioned solution is KOLA, a mobile application serving as a cultural bridge. KOLA's primary objective is to reconnect the younger generation with their heritage, fostering a sense of unity with traditions and fortifying community bonds.

For this project, I crafted a thorough product proposal delineating the following:

  • Custom User Persona

  • Comprehensive Feature List

  • Go-To-Market Strategy

TRIBUTE:

I created this project to honor courageous adventurers like my parents — 2 Nigerian immigrants who made the life-changing decision to venture to the United States in the early '90s to search for better opportunities for their future families. KOLA is about the preservation of immigrant culture as it is passed down from generation to generation.
